Technical explanations for the challenges ?

Hi all,

I am very new to HTS, I found the challenge very interesting and succed to reach the 7th basic mission.
The only problem is: i dont know at all what i do, its like empirical knowledge, i search for something, do things, and one time Voila. this does that, why ? dont know, it works thats it....

I know that you guys from HTS dont want to give answers to people who are still trying to figure out how to finish some missions, and i think you are right. So i would suggest: why not send an automatic mail with technical explanations, to persons that succesfully finished missions ? You got mails, you could make an automatic sending, you got all it needs to make us(me) informed on what happened. That could, i think, make the site even more interesting, like a real course.

Thanks,

This type of thing has been suggested several times before, and I honestly think it's a good idea. Actually, I think most of the past suggestions revolved around having various source code for the programming challenges available to those who have completed the challenge, but a detailed technical explanation of certain missions would be helpful for those that just "accidentally" complete a challenge.

Short Answer: The Devs.
Long Answer: The Devs.

Don't hold your breath, since usually features aren't implemented immediately, and they're usually discussed at length :)

Ok , imagine Dev's dont have that much time. Could a veteran make the "paper" and give to Dev's so they dont have to spend time on it ?

Now the question is : Who will be the veteran ?
It could be cool to find one fastly so the Dev's could put it fastly too, it could be done in a week.

In fact, I tought about that because, i did my first challenge in a few days, and then, because of the lack of explanations, discontinued to come.

So Dev's ! Veterans !! Come on !

:D
ps: Can a Dev come on give us his point of view ?

Another thing we could do is write an overview of the mission. So if someone missed something or want a clarification the overview will point everything out. This idea was borrowed from Project Euler. I just love too much that site.

I do like this idea, but perhaps a better way to do something like this would be a separate set of forums, which are unlocked each time you complete the forum's corresponding mission, where people can ask questions freely and everyone else who has completed the mission can learn how to expand on the knowledge they gained in completing it. It would have to be done carefully though, to avoid people completing the missions just to gain access to a locked forum.

The forum idea has been mentioned numerous times. I like the paper idea. Maybe a link becomes available upon completion?

I would be interested in writing some if I get time...

I like the paper idea too, maybe there could also be a brief synopses of what you were supposed to have learned in the process of completing the mission. For example, with basic 5, the paper could say that one of the things that you should have learned is referrer spoofing.

@fashizzlepop, I know it has. I just figured that I'd put it in with the rest of the ideas here since it seems to go along the same train of thought. I like your signature btw.

Great ! It begins to work, could you guys talk about the subject to other members of the forum, so we could have more persons interested in making thos, and maybe we could begin to gather the "papers".
the first challenges should be easy to explain for a veteran right ?
