May I ask why Perl? Many people recommend it. I am already studying C and Java for school and learning html/javascript because of the Basic challenges on this site which show me their importance. But what of Perl? I heard it's commonly used, but though at face value that is easy to understand, perhaps go in more detail?

I'm not a regular user of perl, but it's a fairly general purpose, high level programming language. Not sure if this has changed at all, but Perl used to be noted for it's excellent capabilities for working with strings. It's also fairly popular as a server-side language.

Thanks for the reply. While I have no understanding at it whatsoever I'll be taking more of a look at Perl/HTML over the course of the winter. A friend and I are going to set up our own internal network so we'll be using that to learn anything we can.
