Book on java for me : )

Post by Spyrall2 on Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:00 pm
([msg=33555]see Book on java for me : )[/msg])

Can someone advice a book for java for someone who is past the newbie stage..

I don't know if that 'really' is a reference, but I was able to do the first 2 programming missions in java (haven't tried more, but I'm frightened by 3 xD )..

I'm fully aware of how the object oriented part of java works and can use it quite well..
I have 3 months of experience with it (studied it at univ. )

So, what would be a good book to progress with?

Or should I just keep searching for projects and 'do' them in order to progress.. (even though a book never hurts? ^^ )

regards

I too haven't a clue where to start with the OCR programming projects, but you might consider doing 11 & 12 for now, as they are quite simple.

Anyway, the only experience I have with java is my programming teacher explaining the differences from c#, working on code for a robot competition, and seeing stuff online. I don't know of any books, but if you want tutorials or documentation, im sure google would be great for that.

Thank you !

(I'll check out 11 and 12 ^^ )

(btw :p - the problem still isn't solved, as changing that initial int doesn't change anything.. because that different starting position doesn't matter for my delta value.. as 10 - 0 = 20-10 )

You'll want to get some of Herbert Schildt's books, http://www.herbschildt.com/currentpage.htm You'll most likely find some of them at a library / bookstore.

I don't know about his other stuff but Herb's books on C are useless if you care about security or consider C and C++ different languages (they are!).

I've never looked at his other books, I picked up one or two of his Java books at the library, found them really comprehensive.

I know this reply is a little late but I use the Java programming book authored by the head first series. My lecturer said it is a must because of the success of the visual interpretation of how those with little programming background can pick up java incredibly fast.
