IRC Bans and G/K/Z-Lines

HTS Users,

I know it can be frustrating if you were/are/have been banned or *lined. Please note that unless you are using a static IP address, inevitably you may land on a banned address. With this being the case of the modern internet if you are banned or lined for an unknown reason please DO NOT use a proxy to bypass the ban, as that sends red flags all over the place. Instead please remain calm and collected, send an email to weekend@hackthissite.org or scram@hackthissite.org explaining that you are banned for an unknown reason. Also, do not get hostile about bans of any type for any reason, it just causes more drama than it is worth. Instead either accept the ban and wait it out (most last only a few hours) or contact weekend or scram via email. Also, please refrain from creating a topic here in the forums about "I am banned, it is unfair." as the forums are meant to be a place of information, not whining. In the event that weekend or scram inform you that the ban or *line is just and permanent, DO NOT start a smear campaign against them or HTS. More than likely if you got banned by an ADMIN (excludes half ops), it was justified and ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT. Your only recourse is to straighten out your act and wait out the ban. Ban evasion will result in higher consequences, and trust me, you will lose. With that being said, if you are unsure what will get you banned, be sure to issue the /rules command in IRC to check the latest rules and conditions. I will post the current rules as of February 8th, 2013 (THESE RULES MAY CHANGE ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE!)

+------------------------------------+
| HackThisSite.org IRC Rules |
+------------------------------------+

- All rules are at the mercy of the oper's discretion. If they feel you are
doing something that you shouldn't be, but not mentioned in the following
rules, they have every right to take the neccesary action needed to quell
the problem.

Rules:
1) All users without exception must read and abide by the Terms of Service
(Acceptable Use Policy). These can be found by issuing the /TOS command.
2) No spamming or flooding any user, channel, or the server itself in any
way (This includes, but is not limited to: message spam, mass messages,
advertising other networks, CTCP spam, etc)
3) No participation in activities of any kind deemed illegal in the United
States of America.
4) Trolling is strictly forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to,
off-topic repetition of internet memes, jokes, or slogans (can also fall
under rule #2 as spamming), blatant intentional stupidity or immaturity,
egregious behavior, abuse of other users or opers, ad hominem arguments,
and any other behavior deemed innapropriate and immature with respect to
the continuity of this community and its conversations.
5) No racism or sexism. Joking is fine, but true racism will be considered a
violation of rule #4, and you will be banned. Constant racist remarks will
also be classified under this.
6) No advertising other networks or competing sites. This applies particularly
to topics and /quit messages, but any advertisement in an official channel
(as defined above) will be regarded as grounds for an immediate ban.
7) No government/federal vHosts. Two examples would be the vHost
"fbi.gov, army.mil"
because it is classified as impersonating a federal agent. If you are
in the military, a military vHost is fine as long as you have proof.

- Failure to follow these rules will result in a warning first (certain
circumstances are exempt from this, ie. botnets), and then whatever
course of action the oper deems necessary. Bitching and complaining
about an oper's rules will grant you nothing more than expulsion from
the network. Remember, your access to this network is a privilege, not
a right. Opers reserve the right to deny your access for any reason, or
no reason at all, should they deem it necessary.

- Questions, let an oper know. Suggestions, let an oper know. Complaining
about how the rules are 'unfair', keep it to yourself.

Here is a copy of the current Terms of Service, or TOS (accessible using the /TOS command):

So, in closing, let me re-iterate: IF you are banned for an unknown reason, contact the IRC support staff (mainly weekend or scram). IF you are banned for a legitimate reason, take it like a mature adult and own up to it. IF you are just on IRC to be a whiny, immature troll, join irc.freenode.com instead.
