I'll expand upon this a bit. My personal preference has been PHP. However, if you know one you get the idea of the other, because conceptually they are similar. With the multitude of reference books available, you should be able to 'work' in ASP after you've learned PHP.
I would chose PHP because the large by far majority of website hosting environment is LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)

Something close to 75% or more... Other advantages I've found with PHP are the large banks of code snippets and help that you can find through a quick and easy google search.
