Hey, I was looking to start a group and hack together. We find places to hack and train here. We hack almost every day with as many people as can do it. We communicate with Skype.
Recommended equipment and software:
Skype
CMD
Headphones with microphone
TrueCript
You may not be able to get the stuff, but you can join even if you do not have the stuff.

If you really are interested in getting into hacker groups pick up a recent 2600 magazine and check for hacker gatherings for your area.
