i am basically a noobie,
though i know some c,c++,html,xhtml
though i am wondering if i have taken the wrong root,
i wanted to be able to make and protect my website(be able to see my sites weakness, through looking at other sites),
though the 1st language i learn was c then c++ and i have recently came in contact with html and xhtml which i think open a whole new way of programming.
so if you could suggest if I am on the right path
and if not were to go from here.
thanks

Well, HTML and XHTML and such has not much to do with programming. Basically they're just a representation of data - more precisely a UI. If you wanna go this way (the i.e. web) go with technologies like PHP/ASP/J2EE. The first one seems to be the most popular for individuals, the last one is somewhat becomming the industry standard and while could be a pain in the S, you may even prefer it as Java is somewhat similar to C++ (Although going with the Spring MVC framework for example will make you spend your time editing XML's and JSP's rather than Java code)

Also, you should check JavaScript and AJAX for front end workings.

Your answer lies in your "signature" itself. The book starts by introducing you to C and has a very good approach for beginners. You can skip the chapters regarding C if you know about it. HTML and XHTML are almost the same thing, both being markup and NOT programming languages. Buy a copy of the book "Hacking The Art of Exploitation" and read it. The new edition of the book comes with a liveCD based off Ubuntu that allows you to practice what you learn in the book. I would like to specify that you should use the book as a guideline and not your only source for learning.

Good luck!

I think so...Maybe that was how I reviewed it...Read the book. It starts from ground up. It's good for beginners.

Also refer to the "books" forum in order to find reviews on books related to hacking and programming.

P.S. If you have any questions, please post them on the forums and stop asking people how much they know. If you have any questions that you may want to ask via pm, make sure it's something relevant and specific.
