Javascript VS. Firebug

ok, im new to hacking (As in i found this site today) I've learned about HTML and am currently on Basic mission 5. I want to figure it out, but i know i need Javascript or Firebug. Which one should i get? Any professional opinions?

@liljustinc: Most major browsers (like your Firefox 3.6) have javascript parsing built into them. Firebug is just an addon for FF that makes it easy (sometimes a little too easy) to do things with pages and execute javascript. So, your browser already can run javascript.

You don't have to 'get' javascript, it isn't something you download. Firebug is a useful add-on for Firefox, which I'd recommend downloading. As far as the mission goes, I'd suggest trying both methods. Try this....go to the address bar (url) and clear it out and type:
javascript:alert('Hello')

You should get a pop-up box that says Hello, which means your browser has javascript enabled.

You could technically do the same things with either, Firebug will make certain tasks a lot easier, but remember, you can do pretty much all the missions with a standard web-browser and a text editor. However, it's good to learn about other methods too.
