So I have the 32 character hash, and found that other file with the funky characters, and know what kind of hash it is. I'm trying to use JTR to crack the hash, but when I specify the format it says "unknown cipher text format name requested", and when I specify it without the format it comes up with a bunch of warnings:

Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "lotus5"
Use the "--format=lotus5" option to force loading these as that type instead
Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "mscash"
Use the "--format=mscash" option to force loading these as that type instead
Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "mscash2"
Use the "--format=mscash2" option to force loading these as that type instead
Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "raw-md4"
Use the "--format=raw-md4" option to force loading these as that type instead
Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "raw-md5"
Use the "--format=raw-md5" option to force loading these as that type instead
Warning: detected hash type "lm", but the string is also recognized as "raw-md5u"
Use the "--format=raw-md5u" option to force loading these as that type instead

No clue what to do from here... I feel like I must just be using JTR incorrectly

Right, please remember that everything you hear about in the forums about a mission is usually provided... by the mission :) Exceptions being specific programs/tools/ideas necessary, but those will be very clear from the start.

Usually I blunder my way through these things, checking the forum for hints, etc. Then if I can't get it I'll break down and google the answer so I can study step by step how to do it and all the parts needed to get it done.

This time though I got it in one shot ....

Hi everybody!

I found my hash that I need to crack "3f03cfb0b6043023b70b10de4fdadf14" and am trying to crack it using the following command on hashcast on my Mac (Yes I've heard to ditch OS X, but stuck with it for now haha):
./hashcat-cli64.app --attack-mode=3 -m 900 --pw-min=1 --pw-max=6 -1 qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmQWERTYUIOPLKJHGFDSAZXCVBNM1234567890 --outfile=crackedPasswords.txt --remove hashesToUnencrypt.txt wordList/

I couldn't seem to crack the hash using this command, and tried following along with 5-6 different tutorials but no luck.

If anyone can spot anything wrong, possibly the hash cracking method I am using, I would really appreciate it!

I am very new to HTS, but I am loving it so far =)

Update: Realized the syntax was wrong (facepalm) Managed to crack other hashes, but can't crack this one. Anybody mind helping me decrypt "3f03cfb0b6043023b70b10de4fdadf14"? It is an MD4

Mac Users

Hi,

So this took me a good while to complete, mainly because I couldn't get any programs to work on my mac. For any mac users I'd really recommend just using Crossover and then running Cain through that, worked instantly for me.

I got the trial here https://www.codeweavers.com/products/

I got the hash, but I'm kind of hesitant to download programs onto my computer, because don't really need another virus... Cain and Abel has had mixed reviews on this forum, so i don't really know what to download. I use windows 8.1. I am running a decryption on an online website, but it says it could take up to 4 days, and I'm not even sure if it's brute forcing it. (onlinehashcrack.com) Could someone please suggest a 100% clean program or online tool?

Thanks!
