I am too lazy to do the mission myself, but if it is a MD5 or Sha1 hash (I forgot), you can use this site:
http://passcracking.com/index.php
There will be a big chance that they recognize the hash in their database.
You can also use John The Ripper (available on http://www.openwall.com/john/) to crack the hashes. If you like, in combination with a dictionary, since that's a lot faster and the password will probably be just a normal dic-word.
IF that doesn't work out either, you can send me the hash and I'll crack it for you.

Make sure that you tell whatever program you end up using the correct method used to hash the password.

John the Ripper worked fine for me. Although I did have a few issues with command line syntax before i got it to work. Try John the Ripper but if you have the same problem feel free to pm me.

Getting JTR to work

Post by ShijeFace on Sat Apr 19, 2008 10:17 pm
([msg=769]see Getting JTR to work[/msg])

I was just wondering, how do you crack something using John the Ripper. I've been stuck on this for hours trying to figure it out. So I was wondering if anyone knew. Any help?
Common sense really isn't that common.

Read this:
http://www.osix.net/modules/article/index.php?id=455
Most people who can't get it to work, don't know you have to run it via the command prompt. In Windows, go to start > run > cmd > cd to where you have installed JTR. Then just type the name of the main .exe file (most people rename it to 'john', in the beginning it is john- and then a couple of numbers I think) and you'll see all the available options.

A good alternative to JTR is a program called Cain (& Abel). You can download it from here:
http://www.oxid.it/cain.html
It has a fancy point-and-click interface, so perhaps it's easier to use for new(er) people.

john-386 is the one you need. Most people rename the file to 'john' though, because that's shorter.
