HTTP 501/505 error?

Hi, while i was out penetration testing i tried acessing a site's directory (with permission from a friend of course), and using the perl injection |ls| i got this HTTP 501/505 error. What does this mean? Have i accesed the directory but my web browser was unable to read it?

Or in other words... Perl isn't supported.
