have you considered running the linux server as a virtual machine? I think it's less of a hassle than dual booting + it gives you the opportunity to have both windows and linux running at the same time.

From what I've heard VMs are a lot slower though.
It makes sense to put it on my tower, since it has more than enough power to act as an actual server, plus the OS on it is trashed.

It may be slightly less of a hassle in terms of installation, definitely so for uninstallation. But the speed of a vm (especially on an older machine) will be a hindrance in the long run.

I am not sure, why you actually need the Ubuntu server for?

When you have no clue of installing a server, how would you maintaining/managing it?

lol the hardware specs on that tower should be really good but I'd have to check, I didn't build it.
Installing the server at the moment for experimentation.
First I want to set up a GOPHER server then an SMTP server,
