Installing Ubuntu Server...How?

I downloaded it and I'm just totally lost.
Could anyone tell me what I'm supposed to do with this massive repository of poorly organized chunks of OS?

Download the .iso image, burn it to a cd or dvd. Then start up the computer you want to make into a server, insert the disk into the cd or dvd tray, then go into the boot menu, make your cd/dvd drive boot before your hd. Then just boot the cd and follow the onscreen instructions, and enjoy your new server.

You could, but that's a bit... pointless. What are you gonna have? A win laptop by day? Ubuntu server by night. Sounds like an bad idea for a canceled super hero...

The OS on it has gone to poop so I might as well.

Poorly organized? You don't even know how to install it so how could you say such a thing?

KthProg wrote:Can you install it alongside windows or will something happen @_@?

This is in fact completely pointless. Unless you're planning on running ubuntu server but just want to make sure you don't hose your windows because your parents will get mad if they find out, I suppose it would work.

Ubuntu server is incredibly easy to setup. So far you've just complained and haven't really asked any specific questions so I can't help further.

nvm i did downlaod an ISO, it just keeps opening in my ZIP program as a compressed folder.
So I have to mount it with daemon tools and then burn i to a disc?
I have a massive folder of hundreds of files.
I can say its poorly organized because its hard to find things or understand what something is.
i.e. the definition of poorly organized. -_-

The point would be to keep the OS i paid for while having the server running on my pc as well.
So there is a point.
So its not pointless.

anyways I said later that i decided to install it on my old tower.

What are you even doing? Are you on Windows? Are you on linux? Have you never downloaded an ISO and burned a CD before?

What do you expect from a whole *fucking* operating system? A single file with 3 scripts called "boot", "idle", and "interwebs"?

Burn the CD. Boot up from it, and install it along side windows.

In that case you want Wubi. But there isn't a server edition.
