I found this yesterday

([msg=71122]see I found this yesterday[/msg])

I was looking around on another forum I'm on and I found a neat little icon in another members sig. It basicly posts the IP, ISP, OS, and browser your viewing the page from, or atleast what your browser says you are using. Finding this I became courious about it, I wonderd if I could mess with the return it displays.
So I Used a firefox addon called user agent switcher that basicly canges what firefox says it is, I set it to show Internet explorer 8. To my glee when I reloaded the page it said my OS was windows and my browser was IE 8, The OS and browser were wrong. I tried playing with a few settings on foxy proxy but that didn't really do anything to the return. Wanted to try conecting to TOR and see what the return might be but my TOR dosen't work right now.
To me It's an interesting little thing, I'd like to know more about it. The code to post it looks like this
Code: Select all
<a href="http://www.danasoft.com"><img src="http://www.danasoft.com/vipersig.jpg" border="0"></a><p><div style="font-family:Arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px;">Sign by Danasoft - <a href="http://www.danasoft.com">Get Your Sign</a></p></div>

And the url for the site that makes it is http://www.danasoft.com/ Have any thoughts on it? or does anyone know more on how it works?

I believe that every time that picture is loaded by a browser, it runs a script on the Danasoft website. Then that script finds your external IP, ISP name, and browser name. This then adds those details to the image.

To think of it, Danasoft must have quite a big server, for all the people in forums viewing the sig.

Its not that much resources, about the usual for an image + normal page. Reading this post costs more resources then that(although chances are they get asked for more images then folks visiting this specific post)
Their stats show a record of 5,332,441 views in 1 day. Which according to my crappy math is 60ish a second. Which seems doable, especially if they have a somewhat smart caching system.

For more info on how to create this yourself read up on apache's modrewrite (to actually have a .jpg url run a php script instead of just fetching an image) and http://www.php.net/manual/en/book.image.php to generate/manipulate images with php. (don't forget to change the headers!)
