Jail?

Simple question, can you go to jail for hacking to be admin on a website? Like the 'or''1=1 and username and make yourself admin on whatever website is that illegal?

I'm not sure if you can go to jail, however it would be best if you asked the website's webmaster if you can do like...a penetration test, for the fun of it, and if you succeed, tell them about that security hole or whatever.
