This is indeed stupidity in a nut shell, trust no one. Just proves that social engineering is still a real threat. Always get id written consent and never do something that is likely to end you in prison for many years no matter what anyone tells you.

Thats like going here mate take my pc I wont tell anyone sure its free - "rings police" - He said I could just take the pc - Sure he did.

brutal_hacker, he had written consent (according to the article), which is the biggest reason he was able to get off in the end. The documents were forged, however (which sucks for him.)

Anyway, things that sound too good to be true usually are.
