Yes, or you could even create your own encryption algorithm, given that you know how.
However, I still do not find it to be very efficient.
You can use true crypt to encrypt everything you want anyways, and store the password to the encrypted data on a portable USB off of your machine. I do not see designing your own os as a good alternative.

I wasn't saying building your own OS is a good chioce (it's not, although, it is an *awesome* choice), but rather, there are OS's that can make passwords essentially uncrackable.

It isn't the OS that does that, it's the hashing algorithms behind it that does that.
