Game I'm making

Hello HTS,

I've been working for a few weeks now on a pretty large video game in Java which I hope to someday complete. Although it is still in it's infancy, slowly fermenting in my mind, I think this is as good a time as ever to ask; Would a Java Applet do well for the task?

I'm currently scaling it all in a Java applet as I find those easiest to work with, but I hope to eventually mount it in a jar file and be able to run it as an executable, merely by double-clicking on it. Does anyone know of a way to do this with applets? I've been able to do it with basic command line programs, but I've yet to find a way to run an applet from a jar file.

And finally, would I be able to make money off of this? I'm hoping to make a full fledged adventure platformer game and to sell it to the WWW.

Thanks for reading and all comments are appreciated,

For games I would suggest using java3D or java2D, that is part of the JavaSE platform,
http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/java3d/
http://www.java3d.org/tutorial.html
http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/Java2D-Tutorial.html

The only application that I know it creates executable is J# or use a tool like JEXECreator(this tool will not make your application exe but an exe that launches your java class files):
http://www.ucware.com/jexec/index.htm

This depends on what how good you program it is(if you want to make money).

instead of java 3d or java 2d like the ghost107 was saying, i recommend lwjgl (http://lwjgl.org/), and the jMonkeyEngine, which is built on lwjgl. jMonkey has a great IDE for working with the engine. http://jmonkeyengine.org/

Personally, I have not done any real game development, though I have experimented with unity, multimedia fusion, and the like.

If you would like, i could help, since i know a thing or two about java.

Thanks, I'll look into all of that and see if i can get something working. As for help, thanks but no thanks. Most of the programming I like to do myself. The only help I need is a good graphics artist but you don't really find those under every rock in the sea :(

Thanks all!
