Computer Language Checklist

I was just wondering what are the computer languages essential for users today. Though I understand there is no best language for programming etc to learn as it could raise various debates, but I just wonder what could be a basic checklist of languages to learn. (This is due to the fact that I keep changing from one language to another without fully mastering any of them.) Opinions greatly appriciated.
