Random things go here

([msg=78844]see urandom[/msg])

while playing around with files in /dev/ i put 2 and 2 together and remembered that linux has a random file which is used for the purpose of generating unlimited psudo random information. So if you're curious or want to impress your technologically challenged mates with a horizontal matrix thing, have a play
Code: Select all
cat /dev/urandom

Yes, I am awaking the dead here.
No need in making a whole new thread regarding a similar concept.

This is also a viable option to generate 'random' passwords / salts.

Use the fold -w option to set the length of the password
Use the head -n option to set how many passwords / salts to generate.
Code: Select all
cat /dev/urandom | tr -dc 'a-zA-Z0-9-_!@#$%^&*()_+{}|:<>?='|fold -w 15| head -n 10| grep -i '[!@#$%^&*()_+{}|:<>?=]'

Example output of 10 passwords at 15 length:

Less than 30 days is hardly reviving an old thread. Just my .02BTC

Also Ninjex, I am a little concerned you are just learning about urandom. Here are some other tricks you might find useful:

'ls' lets you list files
'cd' lets you change directories
'clear' will clear the screen
'cat' followed by a file name will display the contents

Use them responsibly.

Of course I am just giving you shit
Assume that everything I say is or could be a lie.
