I am currently using Windows Vista and want to use Unix without having to use a bootable disc.
Can anyone tell me were to download Unix onto the computer itself, please.

Yes, vmware is a great solution for running Linux (in Windows) without having to dual boot. If you have an old laptop or desktop PC that is just sitting around, you could always download a copy of Ubuntu (or even Xubuntu) and breathe new life into it.
