Generally with BackTrack you need to enable networking first:

/etc/init.d/networking start


It'll churn for a bit, and your cards should be configured. After that, I recall being able to use dhcpcd. Not sure why yours isn't working.

Mine did the same thing. This was my solution, probably will have the same outcome as Goatboy's
