I personally recommend backtrack 2 or even dvl(damn vulnerable linux).DVL teaches you how to deal with security on a network and backtrack allows you to apply what you have learned and learn even more. Backtrack deals with penetration testing and privladge escalition.Dvl deals with gaining root and keeping it.
