network models

What's the best way to setup a home network? Why should I care about BGP?

Ok, i know that there are different kind of networks.Mesh, Star and so on. But i a school has some kind of a different network or has it? So i wonder, what is it called? and how does it different from the private network dessins?

Most Schools use the star, or similar, topology.

Also sorry for the short response, a bit rushed.

Yea ok, ty. Ok is there any way to connect to a star network like that from internet or any other way?
Beacuse we have this thing now in school, you search the network for security holes and stuff.


I would be very thankful if someone experiensed networkguy could give me some tips :D
