Are there good free web hostin providers available?

What's the best way to setup a home network? Why should I care about BGP?

Are there good free web hostin providers available?

I search for a place to where I could set up my site without paying a dime. I want to upload my software, so others could DL it without any problem, that's "without any problems".
I got now like 10Gb of soft, but where can i find space for them on the net?
...
I was at WebNG lately, but there were annoying limits and now they force ads, damn.
...
Where could I find a good web hosting provider, that's free, with lot's of diskspace and with no crap?

.. I used the magic of Google ..

And what came up?
best free website host: 110MB.com - 5Gb storage, 8Mb file upload limit, no upload file type limits(?) and no ADs.. 8-)
best free file host: badongo.com - no limits, never deleted (read the TOS), ... up to 1Gb file upload?

Useless topic I know, but since I can't delete my own topics...

Well, of course you want any server near your home (If it's Gaming or web)
Usually, you won't find many good server hosters without having to pay.
You can always ask other people for hosts, if they allow you too.

I've used Infinology, Yahoo's basic hosting plan, and quite a few "bait-and-run" as well as free hosts.

Infinology provides solid hosting though their support is somewhat dodgy. I've not had downtime problems, though it's not too difficult to "smack the system," per se - a few too many calls and the server will designate you as a "threat" to their "security." :P

Yahoo... Blah. You can find equally priced sites and more functional services elsewhere. They never replied to my inquiry of how index.htm was consistently being devoured.

So far as free hosts, some have their own horrendous policies - as you may have heard, new hosts spring up, stay online for a bit, then pull the plug, running off with what they have or just end up losing everything. Haven't had problems with 110Mb, though I'd check SiteAdvisor, Hostreport and WOT to check the reputation. If the site isn't reviewed, I wouldn't prod it with a telephone pole.

Backwards trip: Remember the days of Lycos's AngelFire and Tripod sites appearing all over the place?

There's no such thing as a free lunch; at least not for that much data. Sorry :[

Perhaps look into Amazon S3 or Rackspace Cloud Files (neither are free)

Maybe sign up for a bunch of free web hosting accounts. Some give ~100MB of space. 10 accounts and you have 1GB of storage; 100 and you have your 10GB you need. Then just directly link to the files so you don't have to deal with ads from an ad-free hosting provider. -shrugs-
