BackTrack 5 r3 WPA/WPA2 Cracking

What's the best way to setup a home network? Why should I care about BGP?

BackTrack 5 r3 WPA/WPA2 Cracking

Hi all!

I am new to Linux and BackTrack and I have been learning through trial and error.

I have BackTrack 5 r3 installed with Virtual Box. I have been learning how to crack WPA protected access points.

The USB 2.0 wireless adapter is a product of comfast and the chip is RTL8188CUS that (to my knowledge)supports linux.

My wireless adapter seems to show in airmon-ng although under chipset it says "unknown". When i run "aireplay-ng -9 mon0" it shows that it is working/injecting fine.

When i use the command: "airodump-ng -c [channel] -w [outputfile] --bssid [mac] mon0" it shows the AP but does not show any clients connected to it and i know there is. Why is this?

When i use the command "aireplay-ng -0 5 -e [AP name] mon0" to send the deauth i can see on the client computer (because its a computer i own) that it temporarily disconnects and reconnects but i still dont get a wpa handshake. i have tried over and over and still cant manage to get it to work. Its driving me insane.

Can someone please help me! I would appreciate any and all help.

Thanks in advance.

You should probably check into the backtrack community forums for further help with this:

Hi ninjex,

I would love to post the exact same thing on the backtrack linux forums.

Unfortunately i have already tried to register and it gives me an automated message that reads: "Sorry, registration has been disabled by the administrator."

I have had a browse through their forums but i have had no luck fixing my problem.

Hi, I attempted to post this for you, and was greeted with this message:

"Announcement:
The BackTrack forums are now closed !
balding_parrot (Developer)"

They may have had some issues to patch up. You should check back later! You can also try and check into the Kali Linux forums which will be similar, and if all else fails, maybe even stack overflow.

The backtrack forums are closed so the team working on BT can focus on Kali instead. My suggestion would just be to use Kali, it's what BackTrack was meant to be and you'll get better support for it.
