ok well i used to use torrents and one day did a anti virus scan and i had over 200 trojans....yes 200 not 20....and see i clicked contain and erase it did that but now...my computer is so slow and my mem was 340 free of 670 now its only 30 free.

Reinstall your operating system, its the simplest way.

I had this same problem....with windows.

Then I learned that you probably shouldn't use Windows as your main operating system.

If you must have it I suggest dual booting windows and 'nix.

funny you should say that etel. i am just about to partition half of my hard drive to install gentoo on. been meaning to for a couple days now.... but shit with my family keeps getting in the way.

but yes, i am a huge fan of the destructive reformat. i keep all my "must have" files on an external hard drive, so re-installing is literally a snap...

Well, first learn to not fail and not get viruses BEFORE fixing the problem.

A simple anti virus should do the trick.

If you can.. in the future after you setup the OS and before you connect it to the network, use a live disc to dd the drive to an external. When shit hits the fan just use the live disc to dd that fresh install right back; much less hassle than reinstalling. Just be sure that important files are done NFS or similar with backups. If you have multiple computers with the same hardware it's a huge time saver as well.

If you ever visit a website and a pop up comes up, and then they tell you they scanned your computer and found all these malwares. Then they're like you need to install this product on your computer that's called a trojan DON'T DO IT!!! There are other ways to get trojans, but the method listed above are the most obvious ones.

If you have ever installed a pirate application, you pretty much definitely have some form of malware.
Even if you can't see it and have some brilliant anti-virus software, you are most likely infected with a rootkit. There's a lot of money in them, so groups hire out warez dealers to shovel their rootkits onto the cracked applications, keygens, etc.

Do you have any sources for that TheDotMaster? Pretty much everything on my system is pirated, all the games, all the music, all the programs, even the O/S itself. However, I've never seen any weird connections, or have any problems with the computer.

There are certainly exceptions to the rule, and in this case the rule is more of an observation anyways.
