NEED URGENT HELP ! virus/trogen

OK my problem started like this... I had a virus, and or trogen that avg 8.5 picked up and i used the program to delete the file and correct the problems. opon doing so I rebooted and i was immediately prompted to ACTIVATE WINDOWS! so my guese is that i deleted an important system file.... The only file i think that was of importance was the MSB file it got deleted. and what really makes no since is that i can boot in safe mode and while trying to activate windows in regular boot up (i cant get to my desktop) it will not except my cod. The cod is the one on the system becuase i used a program in safe mode to check what it was. so WHY the HELL wouln't it activate ... my only consilation is that the activation box has a go to microsoft link wich brings up internet explorer from wich i can get to programs and other websites via the open command.... ok well thats about it i Just dont understand whats happening and how to fix it .... a few things i have tried are undoing the deletes through avg and system restore (in safe mood/ admin) but restore seems to not work everytime just says couldn't restore... PLEASE HELP ME

Ok, first off...

If you want help, then for crying out loud, use at least a little bit of punctuation and grammar, hey, maybe even a bit of formatting. And most importantly, DON'T put "PLEASE HELP ME" at the end. Bloody hell.

I'd recommend using some better security software than AVG, which sucks IMHO, or better yet switching to Linux. But to fix your current problem, I think you'll have to restore your system files. That is, if I'm correct that they've become damaged from the virus removal, from your shitstorm of text.

Back up your important stuff to a flash drive, do a virus scan on it, etc. Keep that safe.

Reformat your computer, install Windows again (or better yet - Linux :p), and immediately update it and install anti-virus and malware protection. Then reinstall your old applications & data. It's a pain in the neck, but worth it.

Hey watch out for Malware where it deletes a program and replaces it was a duplicate that makes you think its real and you download or activate it, then you are even more virused up!

Use Nod32 Antivirus , and follow the directions already given above my post. Those are your best bet.

You could use a fake authentication code first though, theres plenty of them on the internet. This will at least tell you if the virus messed up the authentication system, or just deleted some file that said you were registered.

PM me with more information about your system if you want some of these codes, as I might be breaking some rules by posting them here...

activation data is in the registry, i dont see why would deleting a virus cause this. maybe the virus itself caused this.

also, its not your serial number you need to put in the activation form... you need to call the number specified and give the bot the key you got, then you get a different 1-time-key that you can use to activate windows.

Totally possible, it could have picked up that piece in the registry as being affected by the virus, so therefore decided to remove it for fear/paranoia that it could somehow come back through that entry.

If that was the case though, Antiviruses shouldn't be able to delete key registry components without at least asking for user input.

Hi Kids, Sounds like you're having fun fun fun. I shall not flame you very much. (This should be in the new-to-the-net area.) Anyhow lets get to the reason I stopped in on this seemingly inocuous lil thread. Last week I was talking to a tech and he had a XP box that got FUBARed registration. Several work-arounds were tried unsuccessfully and the tech formatted. Not a bad idea when a box is nicked that deep. I did not ask about viral scan lists and etc., But yes it is viral indeed.

I can blather on about backing your data up and documenting your key files, ghosting and etc. etc. etc. Honestly if you were that adept, you would not be here. Surfing habits go a long way too, as do proper firewalls and anti-virus. I will admit, I am a cheap bastard, I only use this stuff if I can steal it, properly. Which brings me back to HABITS. This XP box I have has been running for over 4 years without a firewall or anti-virus. So naturally I got paranoid and wanted to purchase something, NOT, lol. I did get paranoid though cause I did go a surfing the happy porno lands! So I put a full suite of McAfee products on here. No viruses, damn. I got a bunch of very annoying pop-ups though. I wanted to see them, I chose to. McAfee went after my tools: Xscan and the like. The moral of this story for you though is that I got paranoid. Why? I was surfing PORN. Surfing off the beaten path can bring you down really quickly; Especially if you do not take any security measures and are surfing XP out of the box.

Everybody loves torrents. Everybody wants something for nothing, is that what you're getting? Over time, no, and ripping people off has many facets and thats not my digg tonight. Computer Security is. Some torrents contain malicious code designed for various purposes: Data mining is a biggie as is building and maintaining Botnets. Most of this bad code is for this purpose and the torrent nets are full of it. You have to be very savvy downloading this stuff my friends. You run the same odds opening all of your emails for viagra.

Linux is great, but it is a OS that needs attention. It loves loving caring BOFHs for the most part, and at times demands it. I would never run a windows server, Unix or Linux is where I think that's at. The truth though is that the basic user is running around the net on XP or Vista and thinks he or she has it made cause they have implemented a Mozilla browser. The Hackers follow all the little sheeple wherever they go just like wolves. Put inept people on Linux and watch the chaos. Offer some help and have them hitting your server for updates, Oboy!

Windows can be reigned in folks. Stop all non essential services, unbind netbios, obfuscate where possible, restrict anonymous logins, shut down ports, in general lower what net gurus call "Surface Area". If you have some time read about this stuff that is available to you and you will not be "The Lamest Poster". netstat -an your XP box and start studying about what these ports are for kiddo.
