First Start Cryptography

Hey guys, I have absolutely no cryptography experience and was really wanting some information on where to start. It seems like a very interesting topic and nothing in my computer science classes has touched on it yet. I've done a Google search and got back some basics but I'm not sure I'm looking at the right information. Like I said, any basic terms I can start searching and doing some reading on would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Did you try looking at the HTS article section? There might be something there.

No, I haven't. I'm pretty new to the site, as you can see. I will give it a glance. Thank you for the help.

Well, believe it or not, there are specialized cryptography classes out there. I would never have believed it until I saw it on a course. However, the course was limited to a teenager's age so I'm not sure if it's available anymore.
But there are definitely books on it out there, like The Code Book by Simon Singh, I believe. That was the "textbook" for class.

There was a really good article someone wrote in the articles section that had alot of basic knowledge. Allowed me to start Google-ing some terms and reading some more info. But I'll check out the book as well. Thanks for the info. : )

If you are serious about it, have a look at Coursera's crypto classes. Crypto1 starts November 5th.

I wish you could self study all the classes on Coursera, like it's possible for Introduction to Databases class.
