Hash Dechasher Thing...

I store my passwords in a hash version for important stuff. Now I have forgotten what encoding they are encoded in. If you can tell me off the info what it is encoded in it will help greatly. The hash is 13 characters long.

Either you're using improper terminology or you have royally fucked yourself. Simply hashes can not be reversed, while encryption/encoding schemes can. So if you managed to some how hash some important passwords, and forgot their actual value, you can't just simply reverse them. Also if the passwords were half decently "strong" you might as well forget about brute forcing them as well, unless you happen to have access to a couple hundred machines (i do at work, maybe i should take advantage of that one day) brute forcing in parallel.

Regardless, you post is simply to vague and more detailed information would be required to actually respond with something you may find useful.

What program did you use to encrypt it?

Also:

-This is in the wrong forum.
-I'm suspicious you're trying to get us to decrypt someone else's password.

That's entirely possible, and it's happened here before. That's why we only teach people how to do something, and not actually do it for them.

As thetan said, the hash itself won't really get you far if you can't remember the scheme, and even then it'll be some work. What you could do, assuming you remember the original password, is to check it against every encoding scheme, starting with the most likely. Follow thetan's link and see what you can find about hashes with 13 characters.
Assume that everything I say is or could be a lie.

Okay. Also, why do you think I encrypted my password? There a lot more evil people then good people. I just don't really trust the people who use the computer with the password.

Wow?

You encrypt data and don't know what multiaccounts with strong passwords are for?(+Data encryption using AppArmor =D)
Well anyways, good luck and there are better ways to keep sensitive information private.

MOD: Please move this to cryptography
