How to be totally anonymous

I found this article published in the Guardian. I guess it doesn't really have anything to to with cryptography, but the main goal is the same; keeping the private private.

So what do you guys think? What are your best suggestions about keeping your information secure (except digging a hole for yourself and staying there ;-) ) Any software you would recommend? Bad experiences? Good experiences?

Wow, that's a bit paranoid. :)

Toss it all out and find a nice, well covered shack in the woods.

As for software, tor is a good bet, but even then all things are eventually traceable. It just depends on who dedicated the pursuer is...

" A bit?" :D

I tried Tor before, but what really drives you crazy is the slow loading of webpages. I eventually got rid of it because I couldn't see any reason to sacrifice THAT much speed for being anonymous. Could of course be helpful if you want to do something risky, though.

Another tool I found is called MultiProxy (http://multiproxy.org). I'm currently testing it out to see if it's usable.

That multiproxy site is old. I would stick with proxydotorg, at least they have made a recent post or 2. :)

Really, 2001?

Change your mac address (I like to change mine to 6666666) and then use tor to mask your ip. Problem solved.

In addition, don't use your own network. Wardrive around a bit until you find an unsecured wireless network. It's possible (in fact, easy) to crack password-secured wireless networks with a bit of packet sniffing, but it's illegal :D

That could explain some stuff. The program was way too slow, and took up way too much of my internet by just pinging proxies. The proxy list was useless by the way, but at least we know why :D

I really liked that article. I don't really think it is that over-paranoid at all.
