Help with Cain?

Hey, I see that the program Cain has a cracker as well, or a bruteforcer.
I'm not sure how to use it, it doesn't really seem to work.

Can I get some help?
Oh by the way, first post.

Already read it, but I don't know what LM, FastLM, NTLM, CiscoPIX, MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2 (256), SHA-2 (384), SHA-2 (512), MySQL (323), MySQL (SHA1), RIPEMD160 is.

Say I want to brute-force a simple website where there's a login and password.
How do I do this?

Cain doesnt have a brute forcer, if you want a brute forcer then go get brutus.

All those things on that list are encryption types, they encrypt words for safety reasons.

Dont download something that you dont know what it does.
Im off, last year of school and all, I had something longer but char limit fucked that up. So yeah, had a good run here. Thanks for the memories. Thanks to the staff and users.

Best regards, your posting whore,

Oh ok, thanks, though I actually downloaded it to remember my passwords, but I saw it had some cracking stuff.
Thanks for the help.

Cain does have a brute forcer, and brutus is for http, ftp, telnet, etc.

Nevermind, I re-read warman333's second post and saw he said "brute force a website". I was still thinking about hashes :D

Technically they are hashes, not encryption, and I'm a pedantic fuck.

Probably a noob question, but what exactly is a hash?

Also a second question , is it possible to bruteforce an .exe?

There's no such thing as a stupid question, except one you haven't tried googling already: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=define%3A+hash

I'm not sure exactly how one would go about bruteforcing an exe, to be honest.
