Open-Source Software Requested.

I've been doing some thinking - and watching some really odd movies about message encryption - Like E-Mails, pen and paper, even your own messages, perhaps on paper or in a .rtf file (Which can be read by any Windows text-editing program.)

Is there any kind of open-source software I could use to do this sort of thing?

Or just any program at all?

I've heard of Truecrypt, but I am not quite sure that it can work with words.

GNU Privacy Guard, aka GnuPG, is a free implementation of PGP.

You mentioned pen and paper.. Bruce Schneier's 'Solitaire' cipher is fun to work through.
All it needs is pen, paper and a deck of cards. The book it was made for isn't bad either.

Ciphers have also been a very interesting thing to me.
It would seem quite nice to learn. Thank you as well - I'll study the both of them.
