.passwd file?

I'm very new to the hacking community just so you all know. I have googled it a lot, but I can't seem to figure out what and where exactly .passwd files are. I know already that they contain encrypted passwords and the like, and I know where to find them on most UNIX (and UNIX-like) systems. What I would like to know is where to find them on a windows machine or possibly a website. I just so happen to own the other computer and am in the process for registering the website, so I am not doing anything illegal.

You completely lost me. What are you asking exactly? You don't get files with encrypted passwords out of the blue.
