I'm in this gay computer course that is a requirement.
After class, a kid comes up to me, and starts freaking out looking at my laptop.
I tell him I'm running linux.

He asks -

"Hey dude, linux is REALLY cool looking, how much would it cost to put it on my computer?"

It's so funny how some people want to install linux just because it has a different interface, and don't even understand that what matters about linux is under the hood.

Then some kid asks him what linux is as we're walking out.

He says -

"Oh, it's just a kinda different version of Mac."

I just laughed, and walked away.

Well he's sorta right there - Mac is a flavour of Unix and an awful one at that.

I had a similar experience. There's this kid at my school who understands that linux is an operating system, but his knowledge ends there. One day, he asked me about vi.
"Isn't vi kind of outdated?" He asked me.
"No." I said.
"Then when will they come out with VII?" He asked me.

Ignorance can be funny, but you don't help the situation at all by not helping the guy learn. Try telling him what's wrong about his preconceptions and see if you can help him learn something.
