Need some advice on wireless

Hi all, if you've the time i could do with a push in the right direction.
Throughout the rest of this term at my collage I've been assigned the role of Linux security guru. Unfortunately that involves some wireless stuff and I'm foreign to that subject. I'll need to give my class a basic rundown on using Linux tools to break into a vulnerable wireless network. I would prefer to use a tool available in backtrack but anything is fine.

Well the first thing i have found out is that i dislike wireless. But that's irrelevant.
So far the most promising suite i've looked at is aircrack. It seems to have everything that i an my class will need to break into the wireless network. But in saying that, wireless is new to me. Also MacChanger looks like a must since i know the APs block everything apart from each others MACs.
This is really just a stab in the dark.

Sorry for not answering right away. I have recently started asking people to explain what they know before I walk them through it. Since you showed that you have done some work on your own, we'd be more than happy to help.

What insom posted is assuming you are breaking into a WEP-encrypted network. This is pretty trivial in most cases. Depending on the network load, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to break.

That's understandable. I can imagine the amount of 1st time posters asking for step by step guides to 'hacking'. Predominantly social networking sites too I bet.

I'll look into aircrack and cracking WEP with it though I'm assuming I'll be asking more questions once the practical side starts. Thank you both for your help.
