Diffrent types of WPA?

I use a sprint wireless Internet card to connect to the Internet. It has a feature to look at all surrounding networks and tell me the network name, BSSID, encryption, and channel.

The thing is, on the encryption it says different types of WPA. for example "WPA-PSK AES" and "WPA-PSK TKIP" "WPA2-PSK TKIP"

I was wondering exactly what are the differences and which is more secure then other types of WPA. I always thought there was one WPA, not several types.

Thank you,
