After seeing this i went to the mission and saw what was wrong with it. Granted i dont know alot on perl this seems very straight forward. I dont know how to give you a clue on it but its pretty simple. Il do it when im on a computer.
Im off, last year of school and all, I had something longer but char limit fucked that up. So yeah, had a good run here. Thanks for the memories. Thanks to the staff and users.

Best regards, your posting whore,

It's actually common sense, not Perl.

In fact, you don't need to know Perl at all, just how to work with files and being a Linux User helps a lot too.

Well, that makes more sense now
last time i tried looking at it from the syntax point of view, never thought of involving common sense
ill try looking again
THANKS

EDIT: Nope.... i was never good at common sense, logical missions took me ages to solve.
i was glad i finished with them, but i found out most of the missions involve logic, which is good but makes it harder
So, still can't find out
im so desperate i even tried creating a for loop to make every logfile saved at different names (e.g: logfile1, logfile2)
i feel stupid>.<

Think about file access and how you open them!

Why doesn't changing
Code: Select all
open(STARTREKLOG, '>/var/log/startrek');

to
Code: Select all
open(STARTREKLOG . $DateTime, '>/var/log/startrek');
work?
I don't know much about Linux or Perl but that seems like s good way to go about it.

Because you want to keep the contents of the file; read about output redirection in unix.

Ah.. so that's it!

Just read the open(http://perldoc.perl.org/functions/open.html) perl documentation, and learn more about the mode. that's all!
