Programming 2 help

hello and good day,

i pretty much have this one completed in Java. the only problem i have is telling the program to automatically grab the picture from the internet instead of copying it to disk. I can access other images from the internet, but it doesn't like the one used in this challenge.

EDIT: once i put it together, it worked first try! still haven't figured out networking though :? i'm thinking the problem is somewhere between the login/auth and how the website generates the png.

Java has a great library for interacting with websites called HTTPClient. It deals with sessions automatically, as well as greatly simplifies interacting with websites, so I encourage you to check it out.

http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/index.html

Terminus has an in-depth post about it here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=199

With that time limit, it is also perfectly possible to download the PNG to a folder, and let some other program read it locally. At least thats what I did.

Use the GD library. http://www.libgd.org/Main_Page
This is the function to get the color of the pixel you indicate:
$rgb = imagecolorat($im, $x, $y);
Then use $b = $rgb & 0xFF etc etc to retrieve the color values. (you should only need to look at the BLUE value after its been converted from the unsigned char type)
