Technical Question About a "BASIC" Mission

I do not need help with this mission, nor do I mean to give away any spoilers, but all posting in the Basic section seems to have been disabled. I have completed it a couple different ways, but am still confused. So as to avoid giving anything away, I'll try to phrase this as vaguely as possible.

The mission in question would be number four. The first time I completed this was through intercepting and tampering with the type of information that was being sent. After erasing what needed to be erased and keying in what needed to be keyed in, I was expecting to receive a msg containing the password. Instead, it merely printed on screen.

The second time I decided to go another route, and just manually modified the source code by making my own level 4 mission page. It was a success, but with the same result.

So my question is this: Is the script designed to just hand me the answer once I did what would have otherwise worked the way I had expected, or am I just missing something? I thought it plausible that for the sake of wasted resources and/or security they might do it that way, but I would've felt way cooler and devious with the password sitting in my inbox. TIA

Yes, many missions here will immediately give you the answer instead of having you to search your email box for that email or such stuff. The ideas behind the missions are to learn how to think like a hacker, and exploit the code. Not to sit around waiting for an email to arrive and then enter it in.

Thank you for clarifying. I feel triumphant when I succeed, but sad and empty inside when I dont understand why :( lol. After all, what's the point if I'm not learning?
