Yes, it does matter. Some browser such as chrome and IE (I think) allow typing the commands in the URL bar, while FF only allows this through Tools > Web Developer > Web Console.

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the HTS forum :D

I managed to go through Basic 1-5 but I still don't really understand WHY the methods applied in Basic 4 & 5 worked.
I used the same method (the EXACT same method) on both levels.

Can I always just "change stuff"? Is there another method to pass level 4?

Thank you,
ugosugo

Yes, there is another way to solve basic 5. It is by using JavaScript injection. Go the the first post on this forum for a guide on how to do it.

Basic 5 is more restrictive. Basic 4 can be solved without JS or browser-devtools feature: you can simply save the page to your desktop and edit.

I hope this is not a spoiler :?

Hey guys. I did the same thing in mission 5 that I did in mission 4 and it still worked. I assume that this is because I'm using Google Chrome which lets me 'inspect element' and then 'edit as HTML'. Is this correct? I read the javascript injection tutorial here:http://nexodyne.com/archive/index.php?t-14736.html but ended up not even using Java?!

Edit: sorry...got a little over eager and posted without wanting to read 50-some odd pages about this. I retried the mission with java injection and confirmed that editing inside Chrome is basically doing an easy Javascript. I don't use Firefox, but I assume that the same is true?

For the sake of "completeness":
PC
  • Chrome: CTRL + SHIFT + J
  • Firefox: CTRL + SHIFT + K
  • Internet Explorer: F12

Mac
  • Chrome: CMD + OPTION + J
  • Firefox: CMD + OPTION + K
  • Safari: CMD + OPTION + C

I've never used opera for example, so for other browsers, you'll have to find out

Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" > void(document.forms[0].to.value="email@nhacks.com") ; </script>
