I figured it out using the Asi table and figuring out the value of = x amount of spaces away! Thanks! Talk about persistence!

### Re: Mision Basic X6

Hi all, I am new to this site and started with studying HTML, PHP etc. I know this posting is old, but didn't want to start a new post and flood the boards.

I've studied the ascii table, I've played around with aaa = abc, aaaa = abcd etc. I need to decrypt it right? I know someone said this is basic algebra but math isn't my strong suit.

So, first character for me is "c", well c = c, : equals :, I don't get it, it's the password they give us, is encrypts to another line of text. Very confused, this is my 2nd day of trying to figure this one out I've spent hours on end.

Look at how the encryption is working it's basically pattern recognition (kind of)
a = a
aa = ab
aaa = abc
abc = ace
abcd = aceg

The encryption is simply taking a static variable (The input character at position x) and increasing the value x times.

Thanks, I remember reading about ceaser's method and I see now there is a shift involved. What's throwing me is the way it shifts. So according to the above it skips, so abcde would equal acegi (Skipping every other, b-d-f-h. (that makes sense).

So my encrypted password is "c:2:i5>=" (read they're all different hope this isn't a problem). So now I'm looking to what makes "c" using the above. So using this method I get that same password c:2:i5>=. This is where I'm lost, I get the skip part now, but what am I trying to do? What equals "c", I keep getting ac, can't just get "c".

Make sure you are fully understanding how the shift is working. Is the shift static, or is it changing? This might help you.

If I'm reading this right, it skips by +1 each time.

abcd = aceg
abcde = acegi
abcdef = acegik

Look right?

So per character, it skips +1 to the previous. So in essence, a=0 b=1 c=2 d=3 e=4 f=5 g=6 etc.

Ok, got that now, with that in mind.

abcdefg = acegikl

Right? Ok am I onto something

edit:
c:2:i5>=
2:3:86>=

Doesn't make sense now...

Remember you received the encrypted end and need to decrypt it.
This will also play a factor in the algorithm (rotation of the shifts)
I think you know enough now to figure this one out

Hmmm still unsure, so basically using that shift method noted above I need to decrypt the encrypted supplied text

So I believe I tried that,

This is what I got decoding with the shift.

How does it work with numbers and characters though? The ascii table doesn't make sense to me, in advance thank you for all your help this is driving me crazy!

You would take your character, check it's Dec value (or Decimal value) and use the shift with that value and look for new value.
