Basic Mission 7

Post by limdis on Wed Jan 01, 2014 2:24 pm
([msg=78687]see Basic Mission 7[/msg])

Requirements:
Basic UNIX commands

We know that Network Security Sam has the password file hidden in the current directory, and we also have a calendar script to play with. How would we trick the cal command to output a list of all the files in the current directory? If you are not familiar with Linux/Unix (*nix) commands then stop right now and get over to Google. You cannot complete this without knowing a couple of the very basic commands used in *nix!

Good luck!

It's not just about entering in commands. It's about figuring out how to make them execute.

I would suggest looking up server side hacking exploits, because this needs to take affect server side (in the directory).
Best of luck!

in this case, there's an extremely easy solution, but probably not the one intended by the tutorial.

The solution is meant to be extremely basic. And I'm not exactly sure what tutorial you're talking about anyway..

There's another way to solve this mission, apart from the intended method. But I can't post it here...

Doesn't this mission require knowledge of the language in which the supposed "unix shell" is implemented (i.e., Perl)?

I tried what I thought would be the correct, but after reproducing the script locally I see that this results in a "Permission Denied". Am I supposed to circumvent a certain protection measure, or am I targeting the wrong part?
