I don't know if this fits, but on Watchmen (the comics, i didn't watch the movie yet) Ozymandias password is HIS NAME (translated from greek, but still his name), Dreiberg easily hacks into his computer. Come on, there isn't a worst password than your name, he was supposed to be the smartest man on the planet, he should know that.

are there even any movies floating around that show the realistic qualities of the actual hacking process? not none of this iron man 2 or Die Hard exaggerations? showing detail? i understand this may be unrealistic for a movie in some cases but does anyone know of one?

Not really to be honest, although I haven't seen every movie ever made so possibly there's one out there somewhere.

ya know.. we should collectively try to come up with a script (no not javascript) but a movie script. Something realistic yet, interesting enough to make a movie out of. I see alot of the docu-drama stuff has done well... eg: The Social Network, Pirates of the Silicon Valley.... of course depicting hacking on screen would be mega boring, perhaps time-lapse photography of the energy drink cans piling up and ashtrays overflowing... I have a decent movie title in mind... 'skiddie'

I was very impressed with The Social Network's "hacking" scene. They kept it realistic, and the non-technologically gifted in the audience actually considered it hacking (as if downloading images from a website is hacking ). Anyway, their portrayal of using programming skills to solve problems like not having everyone's image was pretty good.

The rest of the movie made him look like a total asshole, though. I wish they wouldn't have made him look like a prick for cutting off a useless CEO and act as if he made facebook to spite his girlfriend.

I just finished the season finale of Rubicon (AWESOME TV show, btw), and there was a scene where a guy did an inter-agency hack/search. It appeared that they had him on a Linux box using the shell, or something similar. Kinda cool.
