Humorous depictions of computers/hacking in media.

There are innumerable humorous depictions of computers and hacking in both the media and the film industry. Which ones make you laugh?

I have two favorites. The first is in Superman III when Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) is at first hacking into the company's payroll system. They show the screen while the computer prompts good ol' Gus for a password. Gus types "OVERRIDE ALL SECURITY" and the computer goes bonkers, et voila, he's in.

The other was on a rerun of Password or some such show, from the same decade as the above example probably. The word was computer, and the woman's hint was: "It's like a typewriter, but really smart people use it!" Yes, I realize that was probably an accurate assessment back then, but it still made me laugh.

I'm sure there are many more.

Funny you should mention it though. I'm watching Leverage right now. One guy's the very definition of a media-spun depiction of hacking. Still fun to watch though. It's nice to mentally check out every once in a while.

I didn't notice that. I only watched it the one time, in theaters, and if you're talking about the courtroom senate hearing scene, I was too busy laughing my ass off and creaming my panties over that phone/device he had.

Ironman 2 had it best. Dude hacked a (wifi?) tv with his iphone. Oh yeah there's an app for that.

Die Hard 4 - Dude crippled the entire country with his laptop, using linux of course.

Any generic movie where the hacker types at super speed and mentally processes code running across the screen. Why do they need a computer if they can think just as fast as it?

- Swordfish.. lol @ entire movie, besides how many hackers are that good looking? Besides me of course.

- I love 'Hackers' with Johnny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie.. But The Plague and his Gibson supercomputer are pure lmao.. "Rabbit, Flu Shot, what's going on here people?"

- Die Hard 4 isn't that outlandish.. I have a bootable floppy disk that can start a fire sale too, only instead of a laptop with Linux I use a windows 3.1 at some old public library.

- The Italian Job - "The Real Napster" lol.. he invented napster, and his roommate stole his code while he was asleep..

- Remember Jurassic Park, the little girl.. "A Linux System.. I Know This!" -- And Newman from Seinfeld.. the best depiction of a sysadmin I've ever seen... that's how many desk looks too. I need his system lock.. "eh eh eh, you didn't say the magic word!"

In all seriousness though, Hollywood can't put together a hacking movie or even a hacking sequence that is even remotely realistic.. I mean how fun would that be to watch? There are no cool visual effects or explosions? Just a command prompt, lots of mountain dew, cigarettes and no-doz.. and oh shit, the suns coming up and i have to go work moments.

No - even later, when the russian dude hacks into the software of Hammer Industries.

Also, the entire scene with that female operative had me cringing. The fighting was fake, she had some weird zappy device that looked like it was in the wrong century, and apparently as soon as she saw the computer she knew exactly how to reboot the guys suit (and that she had to in the first place).

Gotta agree with tremor77.....I also like the good old cheese fest that is Hackers with Angelina and Johnny but the entire character of The Plague and every scene containing him were just laughable. The character of Cereal Killer was however pretty awesome in my own personal opinion.
