Could someone give me some examples of API librarys? If your interested in... - graphics or gaming, you could start with trying some 2D games with something like SDL then move on to a 3D API - threading and multiprogramming, you could try POSIX threads (Pthreads) - networking or communication, you ...

Re: Why Ubuntu ?

Can the commands that I learn for bash be used somewhere else other than Ubuntu ? Bash is installed on most GNU/Linux systems, so if you learn Bash on one distro, you can use the same syntax/commands on another distro. For example, I use Bash on my Debian system, on my Ubuntu LiveCD, on my class's ...

Re: 2 Questions with Ubuntu

I can't help you with most of that stuff, but... is there a way to point wine, instead of looking at its own windows directory, and its own registry and program files but to point it to the ones on my windows computer? making it actually use real windows files, and potentially making the programs ru...

Re: Socket programming C++

Thats correct. If the other host is behind a router using NAT you cannot initiate connection with them, they must do so first with you (unless your behind NAT as well.) This is because, when you are trying to send packets to this host, you are actually sending packets to the address of the router. I...

This fixed the problem :) now I just need to work out nt the data in a human-readable format (eg. the ip source/destination address displays as some wierd 10-ish digit number) The IP is stored as a binary number so you have to convert it to quartet notation. Th...

I usually get onto MSN to chat with mates and everything while we aren't in touch, and am looking for a good replacement, without the need for them to als...

Re: Raw sockets - C++

Sorry for the delay. I dont seam to recv the whole packet, when I go to print out the packet I have just recieved, it prints 'E'. Thats it. Just the letter E. This is very frustrating, and I have no idea how to fix it. Ah, yes, I came across this when I was creating my above short program. You likel...

Re: Programming help

C/C++ is usually seen as a general purpose language and I would suggest it. Though that might just be my bias. I have heard some say it's hard to learn as a first language though.

Re: Raw sockets - C++

Ah, I see you found some stuff. Thanks for the posts. I found a few things as well. I cut up some of a sniffer I found as well. src: http://packetstormsecurity.org/sniffers/Sniffer_construction.txt (Also provides a "tutorial" for the short code; code is for sniffing TCP though easily chang...
